OBE (Outcome-Based Education)

Curriculum & OutcomesAccreditation & Quality

An educational framework in which curriculum, teaching and assessment are all organised around clearly defined learning outcomes, shifting the focus from inputs delivered to competencies demonstrated.

In OBE, educators first define program and course outcomes, then design activities and assessments aligned to them, and finally measure attainment using assessment data. CO-PO mapping operationalises this alignment.

OBE is mandated by accreditation systems worldwide, including the Washington Accord and bodies such as NBA, because it provides verifiable evidence that graduates possess intended skills. It supports continuous improvement as gaps in attainment drive revision.
