Specific, timely information given to a learner about their performance with the aim of closing the gap between current and desired understanding.

Distinct from a grade, formative feedback describes what was done well, what needs improvement and how to improve. It is central to formative assessment and to behaviourally informed teaching loops such as Edwisely's TEATAR Remediate stage.
