Credit (Academic Credit)

A standardised unit that quantifies the learning associated with a course, usually based on instructional hours and expected workload.

Degrees are awarded once a required total of credits is accumulated. Credit systems enable comparability and transfer across courses and institutions and underpin frameworks such as the Academic Bank of Credits and ECTS.
