Summative Assessment
Assessment conducted at the end of an instructional period to evaluate and certify what a student has learned, typically resulting in a grade or qualification.
Final examinations, end-of-term projects and board exams are common examples. Summative assessment is high-stakes and judgmental, contrasting with formative assessment, which is ongoing and improvement-focused.
