Notable Institutions

A group of eight long-established, highly selective private universities in the northeastern United States, synonymous with academic prestige.

The members are Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania, Princeton and Yale. The label is widely used informally as shorthand for elite higher education, though many equally prestigious institutions exist outside it.
